The Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones Newswires Tokyo bureau is seeking an aggressive newsbreaker to cover the Japanese technology industry.
This person would be part of a two-person team chronicling the struggles of Sony and Panasonic, charting the rapid rise of Gree and DeNA, and providing readers around the world the latest on Japanese gadgetry. The ideal candidate would have a track record of digging into companies and turning out scoops, as well as spotting important trends and developments in Japan and explaining their significance to a global audience. Experience covering technology is preferred, but not required. Flexibility to jump in on other types of corporate news would be a plus. Familiarity with Twitter, Facebook and other social media would also help.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate an ability to report comfortably in Japanese, unaided and on tight deadline -- conducting interviews, covering press conferences, reading newspapers and press releases.
Joining an integrated newspaper-newswires-website newsroom, this reporter would write for all of our platforms, from breaking spot news to long-form features to our Japan RealTime blog. Video also encouraged.
The Wall Street Journal is the largest circulation paper in the U.S., and, along with Dow Jones, the world's premier multimedia business-financial journalism brand. Our Japanese-language website ensures prominent display for our journalists' work in Japan, as well as globally.
