The Mortgage Observer, a monthly magazine covering the commercial real estate industry in the New York tri-state region, is looking for a full-time staff reporter. Candidates should be persistent and dedicated to providing a complete picture of complex financings.
The primary responsibility for this job is writing for a new product at the magazine—a weekly emailed newsletter covering commercial real estate finance. The successful candidate will develop sources among commercial mortgage brokers, lenders and developers to break news about financings, refinancings, recapitalizations and other matters for the newsletter. They will also interview industry leaders for the newsletter’s Q&A section.
As assigned by the editor of The Mortgage Observer, the reporter will write longer features and profiles on a monthly basis. Another chief responsibility will be to help up the post count on The Commercial Observer’s website, writing several posts daily, a portion of which can be aggregated from other news sources.
Knowledge of commercial real estate is preferred. Knowledge of and interest in business and finance is key—as relates to both the local and world economies.
It would great to find candidates who are comfortable taking magazine-quality photos, shooting and editing videos and coming up with creative ways to drive more traffic to The Commercial Observer’s website.
