The Recorder seeks a sharp and aggressive business reporter for its Silicon Valley beat. We are based in San Francisco and cover the legal industry, online (therecorder.com) and in print. We are part of American Lawyer Media.

This is a high-profile assignment and we’re looking for someone with five years of experience in daily journalism, preferably on business or legal beats.

The candidate would be covering the lawyers who advise tech companies, big and small, on everything from startup financing to patent strategy to IPOs. The competition for legal work in Silicon Valley is intense with national and international law firms grappling to establish a foothold in what is a highly profitable and connections-driven market. We need a smart storyteller who can put together compelling business features about the hunt for work and the hunt for talent. We need someone who can see through the spin and can dig deep but can also turn a quick story. Aptitude for using social media to reach and engage readers is a plus.

ALM places a high value on employees and strives to be an employer of choice. To that end we offer competitive salaries, professional growth opportunities, and a comprehensive selection of benefits that include: medical, dental, vision, 401(K) and life insurance options.

Qualified candidates should submit resume, cover letter and three clips with salary requirements to recorder_jobs@alm.com for immediate consideration. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted. No phone calls or agencies please. ALM is an equal opportunity employer that encourages and values diversity. M/F/D/V PLEASE MENTION GORKANA WHEN APPLYING!
