Location: Longview, TX
The Longview News-Journal is seeking a business editor to cover the area just ranked No. 6 for economic growth among the nation’s small Metropolitan Statistical Areas.
The right candidate will have a strong understanding of business, preferably in the health care and energy industries, and a proven record of being able to communicate that understanding to print and digital audiences. He or she will ensure we break news first on news-journal.com and showcase the strongest business stories in print.
The business editor is the primary reporter and writer for a daily page and Sunday section devoted to coverage of the East Texas economy, which is driven mainly by the energy and health care industries, but that includes manufacturing, agriculture and strong retail and real estate sectors. He or she will work with production staff and other newsroom editors to ensure appropriate coverage and presentation of business news.
Applicants should have at least a bachelor’s degree in journalism, new media or equivalent work or internship experience; a minimum of two years of experience in news reporting or writing; be familiar with AP style; and have excellent communication and strong organizational and project management skills.
Longview is the heart of a three-county metro area that is home to 216,000 people. The News-Journal is the flagship of Texas Community Newspapers, a group of two daily and one twice-weekly newspapers and associated websites in the oil-rich piney woods of East Texas, an area known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, proximity to Dallas metro area, and temperate climate.
