Overview:

Reuters is seeking a dynamic reporter for the New York commodities team who can break agenda-setting news and produce sophisticated markets coverage of base metals. With deep sources and market expertise, the successful candidate is expected to produce everything from in-depth, enterprising pieces that delve deep into the dark corners of the industry to sophisticated, inside-the-market stories that speak clearly and compellingly to our trading customers.

Responsibilties:

The beat offers endless opportunity to write stories that are as interesting and important to financial professionals and retail investors as they are to the copper merchants who trade the market every day. Coverage runs the gamut from news about pension funds jumping into the commodities sector to the fall-out from the collapse of MF Global and Peregrine to the warehousing controversy that has rocked the London Metal Exchange and multi-nationals like Coca-Cola and technical stories looking at candlestick charts or volume trends. The common thread is that we’re always breaking new ground, and delivering clever, well-crafted stories that have a real impact on the reader.

Required Skills:

• Minimum of four years’ journalism experience
• Grasp of physical and futures commodities markets; experience of physical price discovery preferred
• History of breaking major news stories, developing high-level sources
• Some experience with enterprise work preferred
• Strong writing skills and an ability to tell complex stories with flair.
• Ability to work on own initiative and come up with story ideas.
