This editor will play an important role on the Live Journalism team helping develop our strategy for live conversations with subscribers and WSJ journalists ahead of or following major news events and coordinating many of our breakfast, dinner and evening events.

This role will be integral in defining how the Journal stays in conversation with our audience and will be expected to deliver on ambitious goals in the coming months.

Here's a breakdown of job duties:

  • Develop themes, curate speakers and work with programming team for WSJ events. This could include: “Future of” Franchise breakfasts, in addition to editor dinners and book club gatherings.
  • Serve as host and lead interviewer for those sessions
  • Recruit speakers
  • Create surprise moments at these: how can we incorporate visuals, make these interactive and feel re-invigorated and different from our competitors?
  • Work on identifying and sourcing key programming moments for our tentpole events: D.Live, The Future of Everything Festival, Global Food Forum, Healthcare Summit, etc.
  • This could include but not be limited to: special access to behind-the-scenes moments at museums and other cultural institutions; private screenings, etc.
  • Develop and deploy our live conversation strategy with subscribers, launching a series of conference calls or web seminars on the news. (e.g. a call with World and Washington editors and reporters following the Singapore summit between Trump and Kim). This includes working with bureau chiefs and reporters to find time and opportunities for these calls, and working with marketing, social and comms teams to get the word out.
  • Own the program for a key WSJ franchise event, TBD
  • Collaborate with programming team on outreach strategy around our events, leaning on them to handle logistics, production, etc.
  • Recruit speakers and work with Live Journalism team on agenda and structure of the event.
  • Help develop our live event hosts and moderators and work with them on the angles of the interviews: the who, what, where, and WHY we have someone on our stage speaking.
