Korea Correspondent, AFP - Seoul
The international news agency AFP seeks a senior correspondent to join its team in Seoul.
The ideal candidate will be able to cover breaking news quickly and accurately, and work to tight deadlines. He or she will be brimming with story ideas, have a range of sources and contacts, and be a strong writer able to explain the subtleties and complexities of Korea – both North and South – to a huge global audience.
Versatility is crucial – as well as the North’s nuclear ambitions and the South’s political dramas, the correspondent will also write about social, economic, cultural and sporting topics. The role includes both daily news and longer, more in-depth pieces and multimedia features, involving some travel around Korea and potentially beyond.
This is an exceptional and rarely-available opportunity. Every day AFP’s words and images reach millions of readers and viewers via thousands of print, online and broadcast clients around the world.
Native-level Korean (spoken and written) and fluent English are required. All copy produced by the Seoul bureau is written in English.
Five years journalism experience required, ideally in a daily news environment. Video shooting and editing skills an advantage.
Compensation package commensurate with abilities and experience. Start date January 2019.
Please complete the application form below by August 12 with CV and cuttings to Chief Asia Editor Giles Hewitt and Seoul Bureau Chief Sebastien Berger.
