Dow Jones Newswires is looking for a copy editor to join its Americas Copy Desk. The chosen candidate will flash headlines and edit copy on diverse topics -- from Wall Street, U.S. corporate news, Latin American stock markets and news, global bond and foreign exchange markets, major economic indicators, Congress, major world events, Wall Street Journal copy and more. The editor must be able to handle a high volume of copy in high-pressure situations. Copy must be as close to letter-perfect as possible. He or she must have a sharp eye for spotting factual and other errors in copy. Dow Jones Newswires is looking for a talented line editor who can trim sentences of unnecessary words but who can also size up a story and see its holes. This copy editor must also be able to quickly and accurately turn corporate disclosure information into succinct headlines. Candidates must be comfortable with computers, work with keen attention to detail under pressure, and have a clear, concise writing ability and must learn quickly. Candidates should have demonstrated their ability to work in a fast-moving, sometimes stressful environment with extremely tight deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving and an excellent command of written and spoken English are a must. Strong news judgment is a must, experience with business news and/or with a real-time media outlet is preferred is a distinct advantage.The desk operates seven days a week. On weekends, it operates 24 hours. It is open on all holidays. Weekend work is part of the job and rotates among the editors. The weekend rotation includes two overnight shifts.
